A COLERAINE man in his 40s was today remanded in custody for a hearing in Warrnambool tomorrow when he is expected to be extradited to Darwin.

Hamilton police said they were contacted about the man who was believed to be involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident in the Northern Territory.

The man's family came from Coleraine and police today investigated if he had returned home, then found and arrested him.

He appeared in the Hamilton Magistrates Court and was remanded in custody until a further hearing in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Darwin police detectives will fly to Victoria tonight for the hearing where they are expected to apply for extradition and outline their case against the man.
