Car smashes fence while residents sleep

POLICE are hunting the driver of an unknown car which lost control and ploughed through a residential fence in Portland this morning.

Sergeant Daniel Lehmann, of Portland police, said extensive damage was caused to two panels of the fence at an address on Edgar Street about 3.15am.

The residents were home at the time of the incident.

Sergeant Lehmann said it was beleived the car lost control in wet conditions and drove into the fence, before fleeing the scene.

It was unclear if anyone was injured in the collision, Sergeant Lehmann said.

He appealed to anyone with information about the car involved or the identity of the driver to come forward.
