MOVE over Baz Luhrmann, another Aussie filmmaker looks set to put Australia on the silver screen.
While Mr Luhrmann was gearing up for the premiere of his much-anticipated blockbuster film Australia, two Warrnambool brothers were yesterday winding up filming on their own project.
Skull Wars is the brainchild of Richard and Nicholas Hollingsworth. They have been shooting their debut feature for the past year in and around Warrnambool.
It includes a cast of 70 local actors and extras and is being shot in high definition.
"We have almost finished," director Richard said.
"It is a full feature and includes special effects.
"Both Nicholas and I wrote the movie and are doing the editing. I first started just doing it on weekends but now it has become more of a full-on project."
The comedy/action flick follows two martial artists who try to stop a unnamed villain from taking over the world.
It is full of fight scenes, laser gun battles and even includes a choreographed musical feature. A computer program is being used to add lasers and blue-screen effects.
Richard, a black belt martial artist and former Kings College student, independently financed the movie and is screening film festivals to premiere the flick.
"I'm trying to find one which suits us. I'd say I'm doing it on a shoe-string budget -- I'm spending my savings on equipment," he said.
"There's a little bit of stupid humour in it. We want this movie to be (one) almost everyone can get something out of and enjoy it."
