Apprentice's bittersweet success

05 Nov, 2009 03:00 AM
A MONTH after the death of his mother a Warrnambool apprentice motor mechanic could become Australia's Mitsubishi technician of the year.

Jarrod Nunn's mum Karen died from cancer three weeks ago, about the time he was advised of his success and eligibility to contest the national title.

The 19-year-old apprentice, and service adviser Tim Wicks, 29, who both work at Callaghan Motors, qualified for the Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited Service Skills Competition in Adelaide on November 19 and 20.

"If I win there, I will be crowned the best Mitsubishi mechanic in Australia," Mr Nunn said.

The competition recognises excellence in customer service and technical expertise by staff from more than 200 Mitsubishi dealerships nationwide.

Callaghan Motors service manager Rob Lee congratulated the pair who he said were both leaders in their individual fields
