AFTER hours of playing with the toys little Ethan Wastell knows what makes a good Transformer robot.
And the budding young designer has won a national competition to prove it.
Ethan was one of five children - two from New South Wales and three from Victoria - chosen from thousands of online entries to design a new Transformer robot.
The five-year-old's design, called Buttertron, doesn't pack a gun but does have the unique power of being able to flap his butterfly wings to defeat enemies.
"It was easy and fun," Ethan said of the design process.
As part of his prize Ethan and his family went to Melbourne to meet head Transformers designer Eric Siebenaler from the US.
Ethan's mother, Stacy Wastell, said her son was in awe of the designer who drew each of the winning entries which were framed as part of the prize.
"Ethan loves to draw and to see Eric draw his design was very special," Mrs Wastell said.
"Ethan just sat there the whole time watching how Eric drew it.
"It's good for Ethan to see if you have a passion for anything, like drawing and design, you can pursue it."
Ethan also won two bags of Transformers toys including his favourite robot, Bumblebee.
