THE state's visitor drawcards are in the spotlight as part of an new event aiming to unite district tourism bodies and encourage residents to explore their own regions.
Victoria Tourism Week started yesterday (mon) and is a joint initiative developed by Destination Melbourne and the Victorian Tourism Industry Council, with plenty of south-west attractions on show.
Visitors can enjoy self-guided tours of Mortlake's bluestone precinct all week, while guided historical tours of Port Fairy are running today and Thursday.
Other local activities include the chance to explore the extinct volcano Mount Eccles with free tours tomorrow (wed) and indigenous cultural and wildlife tours at the Tower Hill State Game Reserve on Friday.
Shipwreck Coast Marketing chief executive Carole Reid said she and colleagues would take part in a tourism industry exchange at Melbourne's Etihad Stadium today.
"We will have a stand which will be promoting all the tourist products in our region, the products within Warrnambool and the Corangamite regions," she said.
"That will be attended by all volunteer staff from around Melbourne, particularly the CBD area, so that means that when they've got people that ask them about the Great Ocean Road and the region we can inform them."
Professional conference organisers, hotel concierges and tourism staff from a range of bodies will also attend tomorrow's booked-out exchange.
