The Warrnambool police officers jump on their treadmills at the Civic Green from noon today.
Until noon tomorrow they will stop only for necessary toilet and rest breaks as they raise money for Peter’s Project, Rotary House and the Leila Rose Foundation.
Mr Kew hopes to make it to at least 150 kilometres, while Mr Keats has set himself a target of at least 200.
Mr Kew said the pair had been overwhelmed by public support so far, raising $8500 already.
“We want to encourage people to get down there and support the three charities, because we’re not doing this for fun,” he said yesterday.
“We should quite comfortably pass our goal of $10,000, but people’s generosity and support has been overwhelming.
“Of the people booked in to run on the third treadmill, I have no idea who at least six of them are, which is great. They just want to support the cause and be part of it.
“Businesses have gone well above and beyond.
“Food, drinks, equipment, running gear — everything we’re using has been donated.”
Fund-raising includes an aerobics class at the Civic Green, fun run, another silent auction tomorrow morning for donated goods and a sausage sizzle.
Tomorrow’s activities on the green start at 9am with aerobics, followed by the five-kilometre fun run at 10am.
