The heat is getting to them

The heat is getting to them

AT: Being a racing lover I suppose you'll be one of the thousands of people making your way up to join in all the fun and festivities of today's big Dunkeld Cup meeting.

TA: Before I head up to Dunkeld I'll head out to the Warrnambool Meat Barn market day. Kids will be well catered for with a jumping castle and plenty of other activities. Local chef Leon Greene will be on hand offering up a range of specialities which will be cooked and served for taste-testing. This will be the first market day and others are planned for December and January.

AT: Talking of the summer months, I was down at the beach last Sunday and I must say I was a little surprised to see the council had altered traffic conditions to do some work on the crossings. It was a driving disaster.

TA: The heat must have got to some of the young bucks on Tuesday night. About 10 cars had made their way from the beach to Liebig Street. The group hung a few laps of Liebig Street then decided to have a few drinks and make nuisances of themselves. I hate to think how they will behave when we really get into summer.

AT: Police should be able to catch the hoons because, as you know, it's very hard to get into or out of the CBD with the changes to the roundabouts.

TA: I heard an interesting whisper that one of your good mates, Colin Ryan, might put his hand up to be the next mayor of Moyne Shire.

AT: I haven't heard that but Col would be an understanding mayor. Anyone else going to put up their hand?

TA: I think James Purcell might put his hat into the ring and I'm not sure whether current mayor Ken Gale will try again .

>AT: I'm interested to go to the Warrnambool City Council on Monday night to hear councillor Peter Hulin's apology over the great tender debate. I'm not sure if Pete's just going to say sorry. He may add a few comments and the meeting is sure to be entertaining. Any news on the football front?

TA: It appears former South Warrnambool premiership coach Bryan Beinke has been sounded out to be an assistant coach at Norwood. Beinke is getting ready to start his personal training business over there. He played a bit of footy in a minor league at the end of this season but his side got beaten in the grand final.

AT: Talking about South Warrnambool, there's talk that former Roosters joint coach Jack Kelson is making a big push to recruit some South players down to Merrivale. Sources say big money is on the table for certain players. Penshurst premiership coach and former Western Border star Grant Ewing is expected to train with Merrivale this week and the Tigers are also trying to entice a few Koroit players . South stalwart Clayton Harrington and Lee Anderson have been linked to South Rovers. The other former South assistant coach, Danny Finn, could be heading overseas.

TA: Apparently Jeremy Gleeson has put up his hand for the Old Collegians coaching job. Camperdown is in discussions with a couple of players from down Geelong way but they will need to be after losing key players Stephen Sinnott, Darren Cheeseman and James Gellie.

TA: What's your opinion of all the Tiger Woods hype?

AT: Sensational. It's the best $3 million ever spent. It costs about $30 million to host the grand prix so $3 million for Tiger is chicken feed. And look at the crowd and the interest in the golf.

TA: Much else going on?

AT: I've been busy marking the social calendar and have already pencilled in a trip to Yambuk for carols by candlelight. Junior reporter Alex Sinnott is going to MC the big event. The young man with the Peter Harvey voice won't need a sound system but I'm not sure about his singing ability. I also heard a whisper that big Eddie Richardson has been having a few problems. Fresh from overcoming a nasty hamstring injury he suffered during a losing indoor cricket grand final, Eddie has struck another problem - poachers. He found a few yabby nets his Naringal outpaddock. Eddie, be careful of those dodgy hammies chasing poachers.

Until next week, hooroo.
