TA: Great to see Koroit's Football Netball Club president Al McCosh has put his family in front of his footy commitments.
AT: I would too if I was in charge the way the Saints have started the season. Koroit has surprised everyone by their lacklustre efforts but it's only early in the season and the team will improve. No need to call for the coach's head yet but I did notice you picked Camperdown to beat the Saints today.
TA: Apparently, Al purchased some tickets late last year for him, wife Leisa and their three children to head to Coolum for a couple of weeks. He was at the opening game against North Warrnambool but missed last week's thrashing at the hands of Warrnambool while he will also miss the Camperdown game and next week against Terang Mortlake. The only result he knew from last week's games on Friday was Koroit got beat by Warrnambool. Sources say he had the phone off for the week, preferring to spend quality time with his wife and family.
AT: Pleasing to hear other key Koroit officials Tim McNally and Dallas Ludeman have been carrying the load while Al is away but I'll bet he'll be back to oversee the club's big social function on May 4. Former champion Kangaroo player Sam Kekovich will once again be the master of ceremonies for the night.
AT: Well Australia's World Cup bid has taken a crushing blow.
TA: What are you on about now?
AT: I had a fairly heavy social calendar last weekend with a christening and a 40th on Saturday night. Started at the christening and went to the 40th before sneaking home with the thought of work on Sunday loaming large. However, the Bride carried the flag and by the time she got home the christening was still kicking on. Very late a ball was produced for a bit of a soccer kick around and the Bride took part. Things got a bit enthusiastic and The Bride took a swipe at the ball only to, surprisingly enough, miss and plant her unprotected right big toe into a concrete step. It would be fair to say she has been a little bit toey all week. Those at the part didn't think an ambulance was required although the Bride went to hospital to get it all checked out on Sunday. There's been plenty of suggestions about the best course of action in such circumstances and the best came from plasterer Barry Primmer - he suggested calling a tow truck. This has all come about not too long after she kicked the vacuum cleaner and lost the same toe nail.
TA: Warrnambool's cycling ranks appear to be thinning for the Melbourne to Warrnambool. First it was Dockers Attrill who came to grief and now high profile Liebig Street fruitier Mario Materia has also had a tumble. Story goes Mario had been riding around the roads in the early hours with Simon Crisp and they decided to join a group of eight other cyclists to head to Wangoom. The first morning that Mario joined the group the boys heard an almighty crash, looked around and saw Mario sprawled on the asphalt.
AT: I think Mario might need a set of training wheels on his bike before he heads out on the open roads again. I tried out his range of honey in the past couple of weeks and can endorse the Timboon product as the best going around. I heard an interesting tale about a well known crook helping out the Warrnambool constabulary during the week. Appears a patron at a Warrnambool hotel had locked his keys in his car and called the police for assistance. The boys in blue had very little idea how to get inside the car and had been trying for some time when the crook strolled past. He said it appeared the police needed the assistance of a talented car thief and it took him less than 10 seconds to get into the car.
TA: Many people will be barracking hard for colourful Terang horse trainer David "Raddish" Drever to wins a race at the May Carnival.
AT: Raddish loves a good time. I noticed he trained Mr. Quiet to a dead-heat for second at Ballarat last Friday.
TA: Mr. Quiet was a $26 chance with the bookies but paid $9.50 for a place on the TAB. The horse was bred by leading sheep and cattle hide man Mick Foster. Raddish decided to head over to the Timboon Hotel with female acquaintance Estelle on Saturday to celebrate the minor placing of the horse. The former Terang footballer decided to wash down his big steak with a few frothies while Estelle, the designated driver, kept herself tidy. Raddish informed patrons in the pub if Mr Quiet wins at the Warrnambool carnival he would put a few dollars on the bar for everyone to celebrate at the Timboon pub.
AT: I was a little surprised to hear the Warrnambool Seahawks basketball team swapped the men's and women's games last weekend and the official explanation was to allow Whittlesea's men's side a chance to get home and prepare for a game the following day. I may be wrong but I can't recall too many games being swapped during the past decade and I thought it was a bit odd. I heard a whisper this week that the game may have been changed to accommodate the social requirements of a star player who had to go to Ballarat for a birthday party. Until next week, hooroo.
