THERE'S not much to say about this movie.
If you've read the books, you'll go and see it and love it. If you've seen all the other films, you'll go and see it and love it.
With its built in fanbase and devotion to its written source, the Potter films have been pretty much review-proof, especially once they got up a head of steam in the last three films and surged towards the climax.
Sure, some installments have been better than others, or rather, some have been not quite as good as the others, notably Chamber Of Secrets and Goblet Of Fire.
But unless they dropped the ball in a big way, the conclusion to this titanic franchise was always going to be great.
And it is. It ticks all the Potter boxes once again, with Yates' assured direction of the three previous films carrying on into the finale, as Harry and his friends race against time to stop Voldemort destroying everything they stand for.
It's certainly not short on spectacle. With the giant battle of Hogwarts, a dragon, and Voldemort's showdown with Harry, the action is big in this film. It doesn't shortchange on the emotion either, with a few timely deaths and a nice coda that will satisfy the saddened fans.
Only a slow start mars the film, but there is nothing here that will disappoint the fans. This is exactly the ending they were all hoping for.
