BOOM side Dennington will take on Woodford in the Warrnambool and District Cricket Association U17 grand final on Sunday at Reid Oval. WDCA junior committee chairman Gordon McLeod said the 50-over game will start at 10am with the game featuring some of the best junior players in the south-west. "There's a number of boys playing who have been involved in the Western Waves this season," he said. "Woodford has Nick Butters, Darcy Keast, Adam Wines and Zapper Jenkins while Dennington's leading players include Matty Gunther, Liam Youl, Jake McKinnon and Kory Howlett. There's some really good young cricketers involved in the match and it should be a great contest." Woodford scored a 61-run win in last weekend's semi-final against Russells Creek at Brierly. The Eels made 9-194 thanks to a standout 54-run knock by Wines and a crucial 46 to Jenkins. The Creek bowlers shared the wickets with Billy Moyle, Dylan Cumming and Billy Quinlivan taking two each. Nick Butters proved the difference between the teams taking 5-30 off 10 overs while Jenkins was tight late claiming 2-45 off 10 overs. Cumming was best of the Creek batsmen with 54 and Moyle chipped in with 25.
In the other semi-final Dennington just lost the wicket of Gunther (23) is getting past West Warrnambool's batting effort of 73 runs. Youl made 30 not out.
