PSP (MA15+)
ONE of the PlayStation 3's coolest series has been downsized for PlayStation portable owners.
Fans of the meatier PS3 versions of Resistance titles may feel slightly short-changed by the smaller portable version but what it lacks for in scale Resistance: Retribution more than makes up for with attitude.
It's a big call, but Resistance has to be one of the top first-person shooters available on the PSP and it's a fitting instalment for the Resistance franchise.
You are James Grayson - a card-carrying angry soldier-type with a plentitude of guns - out to wreak havoc among the Chimera alien invaders.
But be warned - it may take a few moments to get used to the controls. You move your hero with the analogue control, aim with he PSP's face buttons and shoot with the shoulder buttons.
The complexity is reduced by if you use the lock-on auto-aim function and getting close to barriers will see the hero takes cover, from where you can shoot at your leisure.
It's a good run-and-gun kind of game but you'll need to put some thought into knocking off a few of the tougher enemies -of which there are 10 types.
Sony has taken advantage of the PSP's ability to connect with the PS3 and its Resistance 2 title, allowing you to infect Retribution with new abilities, weapons, intelligence and a modified storyline.
And Resistance: Retribution Plus gives you control of Grayson using the PS3's wireless controller - taking advantage of the latter's analogue sticks and vibration technology. Retribution multiplayer modes include team deathmatch and capture the flag.
