CAMPERDOWN coach Leah Sinnott admitted she didn't particularly like the undefeated tag her team carried for the first half of the season. Well, imagine carrying it for 46 games. Irrewarra-Beeac is on an unbelievable 46-match winning streak, which was almost snapped last Saturday in Colac and District Football Netball League A grade action. You have to feel for South Colac, which came heartbreakingly close to knocking off the powerhouse. It went down by a single goal to the Bombers, who are this season aiming for their fourth straight flag.
HEALTHY discussions will feature at the South Warrnambool clubrooms tonight. Umpires coach and AA umpire Barb Cox headlines Hampden Football Netball League's netball rules night, with all players, umpires, coaches and supporters welcome to attend. Participants are encouraged to ask questions in a bid to increase understanding of the rules. The free session is titled 'Application and Interpretation'. It begins at 7pm.
SOUTH Warrnambool is seemingly whistle crazy. The Roosters held a successful level one umpires course last weekend. Netball Victoria's Juleen Maxfield was on hand to help 16 participants update their accreditation to umpire. South is holding an umpires testing day tomorrow at Friendly Societies' Park, with seven of the Roosters' umpires and one Terang Mortlake umpire aiming for either their second-level B badge or C badge.
WESTERN Region liaison officer Marg Morgan has put out an SOS to coaches. A development coaching accreditation course has been organised for July 18 at Warrnambool Netball Stadium but only a disappointing two applications have been received. If another seven or so applications aren't submitted, the course will be cancelled. Applications - which are available on the Netball Victoria website, at the stadium or from Morgan - close Monday. Prerequisites for the course are an online umpires theory exam and a foundation level course. "We are really trying to provide the avenue for all coaches who have obtained their foundation level coaching to move on to the next level," Morgan said. "We have more than 120 coaches around the region who obtained their foundation level and probably only around 12 have gone on to the next level." The four coaches sessions held across the region last week were attended by about 50 coaches.
FORTUNATELY the fashion police aren't out at Warrnambool and District league games. The league has introduced some eye-catching attire for teams' primary carers and coaches. Both are required to wear either fluorescent orange or yellow vests to make it easier for umpires to distinguish who's who.
MERRIVALE's A reserve team has extra incentive to chalk up an upset victory against ladder-leader South Rovers tomorrow. Angela Collins will rack up her 100th match for the Tigers, which are ranked seventh .
