Rovers support begins in the cradle

SOUTH Rovers has a new number one fan who was so keen to watch the Lions, she came into the world three weeks early.

Keira Davis was born April 9 - five days after the District league season-opener which her mum Rhiannon played in.

"It was a bit of a shock,'' Rhiannon Davis, 19, said. "I knew she was coming.

"I just didn't know she was going to come that early.''

Both mum and baby are doing well, with Kiera already familiarising herself with a netball court.

She has been a spectator at a Lions match, with the youngster decked out in a miniature Rovers jumper.

Davis hoped it would only be a few weeks before Kiera is watching her mum, who is itching to hit the court.

"I'm training this week and seeing how it goes and all going well, I'll be back next week for the East Warrnambool game or the week after,'' the goal attack said.

FIVE faces are waiting for Hampden league players and supporters to have a chat to them.

The netball sub-committee wants to make itself known, so here's the who's who. Former umpires co-ordinator and vice president Shirley McSwain is the new president, Trish Butters is secretary, Joy Errey the umpires co-ordinator, Janine Finnigan the events co-ordinator and Mike Farrow the media officer.

McSwain said the group - which has five forums each year as well as monthly meetings - would be more than happy for people to come up, introduce themselves and have a chat.

LACK of interest has not enabled South West District Football Netball League (SWDFNL) to put together a 13 and under interleague team yet.

Youngsters are encouraged to put their hand up and represent their league, who take on cross-border league Mid South East on June 6. SWDFNL has picked its 17 and under and 15 and under sides.

The 17 and under side is Holly England, Jacki Watts, Nadine Phillips, Kendell Gorrie, Sarah Lovell, Madeline Halstead, Ashlee Marley, Amy Cawthorne, Shaunni Morrissey and Brittany McIntosh.

The 15 and under side is Molly Kent, Hana Layley, Nicole Langley, Ebony McIntosh, Courtney Garfoot, Brooke Morrissey, Dayle Bird, Hayley Ball, Tonaya Bannam, Madision Hirst and Kelsey Rowland.

The open team is yet to be finalised.

SOUTH Warrnambool's junior clan of relatives has been beaten, with Koroit boasting 10 first cousins (thanks to perhaps some slight bending of the rules).

The family ties lie with Saints senior netballer Kate Dobson, under 17 Jess Lenehan, under 15 Carly Pulling, senior footballer Todd McLean, under 18 Ryan Lenehan, under 16 Josh Lenehan, under 14 Jordan Lenehan and under 12 Thomas Lenehan.

Making up the 10 are Max and Wilson Lenehan, who both take part in Auskick at the club.

SHARELLE McMahon will be a special guest at the senior match between Apollo Bay and Simpson tomorrow.

The Australian Diamonds captain is making the trek to Apollo Bay Recreation Reserve for the WorkSafe Game of the Month.

Before spectating, the star will run a junior coaching clinic in the morning for the Colac and District Football League Netball Association under 13 team.

IT was bound to happen. Kate, Kate and Kate were judged best for the Saints in round three, with Foster, Sewell and Dobson making an impact against Warrnambool in the seniors.

The match was scheduled on Sunday because of Koroit's Irish Festival.

Coincidentally, Kate is an Irish name.

It's also quite a lovely name... who wouldn't want to call their daughter that?
