300 games of dedication

THREE hundred games at one club when you're only 31 is a fair effort. It's what Dartmoor's Christie Parsons celebrated on the weekend. Unfortunately her milestone wasn't marked with a victory as Cavendish defeated Dartmoor 47-18 in B grade action. Parsons has lined up for the Swans since she was a youngster, missing only a couple of seasons throughout her career. "I went to East Gambier to play for a season and I had one season off because of pregnancy," she said. The mother-of-two's commitment to the club is clear through her willingness to stick with Swans despite being a former Warrnambool resident. "I travelled from Warrnambool for four years," she said. "Now I'm living back in Heywood. (Dartmoor's) just a got a great atmosphere and it's a very family orientated club."

ALLANSFORD coach Jacqui Gore revealed the Cats tried a new training technique before they ended East Warrnambool's undefeated run last Saturday. "All of the A grade girls ran part of the session each for the B grade and A reserve girls," she said. "By them running it, they had to think about training, rather than just show up and do it."

ANYONE wondering what the standard of Western Border Netball Association is like, Sunday is the best chance to take a look. The association is holding a catch-up round this Sunday with all matches, both juniors and seniors, at the same venue. Mount Gambier's association courts will host the huge round of games, which are instead of next weekend. Western Border will have football on the long weekend but no netball as the association is sending representative teams to Adelaide. Sunday's A grade matches are scheduled for 9.30am (West Gambier v South Gambier), 11.15am (Millicent v Hamilton Imperials) and 2pm (Hamilton v North Gambier). All Victorian time. The Heywood-Portland clash is yet to be confirmed.

KEEN coaches are encouraged to go back to school on Sunday. Warrnambool Football Netball Club is hosting a foundation coaching course at Warrnambool College from 9am to 5pm. Application forms are available on the Netball Victoria website.

APPLICATI ONS are open for anyone interested in coaching Western Region Netball sides at this year's state netball titles. Those interested in playing or umpiring at the championships are also encouraged to contact their club, league or association for more information. The titles will celebrate their 25th anniversary this year. They will be played in Bendigo on the first weekend of October.

AFTER the round three encounter at Reid Oval between Warrnambool and South Warrnambool turned out to be a fizzer, the rivals’ next clash should be more entertaining. It should also draw a reasonable crowd, with the teams to duel at 10am at Friendly Societies’ Park instead of 1pm. The timeslot change is because several players involved in the June 19 game — which is a heritage round match — will be competing in the LOUD Championships in Melbourne the following day. Hampden chief executive officer Stephen Soulsby expected the league’s open side, which will be coached by Warrnambool’s Lorraine English, to be announced early next week following a training session at Brauer College on Monday night.
