HI there fellow crusaders. Are you being constantly bombarded with messages to reduce our environmental footprint?
Save energy, save water, recycle, reuse, reduce... the list seems endless.
It's all a bit overwhelming, even for a super hero like me.
I reckon finding information to do your bit for the environment is harder than it should be.
And how are you ever supposed to keep up with the ever-changing rebates available?
Which Government department do you contact?
Sustain the Bool is going to take the hard work out of all of the above.
I have helped put together an environmental program that doesn't require super human powers to figure out.
The initiative will make reducing your environmental footprint easy and it will be fun.
Over the next two years the program will deliver some great environmental activities to cater for all interests.
We will team up with governments, local businesses and the community to:
* Deliver free Smart Living Workshops;
* Help people install solar panels to produce electricity;
* Revegetate 30,000 square metres of land;
* Provide many free and easy ways to learn more about the environment through the Smart Living Library;
* Install light globes in low income households;
* Reduce household greenhouse emissions by 10 per cent in 2010; and
* Support local ideas and directly fund community environmental projects.
Each week I will write a column highlighting up-and-coming activities and events and I will give you some wise advice on how to reduce your environmental footprint.
I'll keep it simple, because it really is simple to do little things that make a difference.
So for today I will leave you with some handy little tips to kick off our crusade:
* Turn appliances off at the wall;
* Set air-conditioning thermostat to 25-27C in summer;
* Keep your showers to less than four minutes;
* Switch to green power;
* Short trip? Ride, walk or take public transport;
* Avoid unnecessary waste. Pack your lunch in a reusable container;
* Wash clothes in cold water;
* Zone off unused rooms to minimise cooling requirements; and
* Remember to make your daily routine a Sustain the Bool day.
